Genji Novi is a full-service Japanese steakhouse and teppanyaki restaurant located in Novi, offering a blend of sushi and interactive hibachi-style dining. The atmosphere strikes a balance between lively and polished, with clean, well-appointed interiors that complement the focus on performance—especially during the teppanyaki experience where chefs entertain with knife skills and food-flipping tricks right at the table.

This spot is well-suited for groups looking for an engaging meal where dining is as much about the show as the food. Guests often arrive early to enjoy the bar area, where the bartenders create crafted cocktails that add an extra layer of fun before heading to the hibachi tables. The seating arrangements around the teppanyaki grills foster a communal, social vibe, making it a place where special occasions or casual nights out blend seamlessly.

Genji caters to diverse dietary needs with attention to detail—vegan diners have observed that chefs take care to separate their meals and understand which sauces and items comply with vegan preferences. For sushi lovers and those wanting a varied Japanese menu, the sushi offerings are fresh and presented on distinctive serving plates, while the hibachi entrées cover classic proteins like steak, shrimp, and salmon cooked to order with a side of interactive entertainment.

Weekend visits require some planning due to longer wait times, partly because of the limited number of hibachi chefs working during peak hours. For a smoother experience, a reservation or arriving during off-peak times is advisable. The ambience manages to feel upbeat without being overwhelming, supported by friendly, knowledgeable staff who make suggestions and ensure the flow of the meal.

Overall, Genji Novi fits well into the local dining scene as a place for shared experiences—whether celebrating a birthday, a date night with a show, or a group outing. The combination of clean, stylish space, interactive cooking, and varied menu options gives guests plenty of reasons to return once they’ve experienced the blend of flavor and flair here.

(Vegan Reviewer) I was very impressed with this restaurant! It has beautiful decor and great ambiance. We experienced excellent service and the chef went out of his way to keep my vegan food separate from any meat or butter etc. He was very knowledgeable about which items and sauces were vegan as well. By far one of the best Japanese Steakhouse's I've ever been too. Kudos and we will definitely be returning.

Great food and entertainment. Food was delicious. Only bad part is the long wait time during the weekend, but it seems during covid times they only have two hibachi chefs working. I'd plan ahead.

It has been a long time since I ate sushi. My wife and I heard about this place and decided to go and try it. The place is really nice and clean. The waitress was so welcoming and very nice. She suggested to us a few things to try from the menu. They are very clean and their serving plates are so unique. The food was delicious and was ready quickly. We tried their KAMIKAZE and Blossom rolls. The kamikaze was spicy the way I like it but the Blossom was ok. However the blossom was torched which made is really great.

Great Experience, Chef was very enthusiastic and entertaining! Had Sushi appetizers not our favorite part of the meal. Only had onion soup available, my guests didn't care for it, I thought it was just ok. For our main entrée has Steak, shrimp and Salmon was all very good.

My daughter took me to Genji for my birthday. We got there a bit early, so we sat at the bar, and met Charles, the bartender. Charles-in-Charge made me a Chambord Kamikaze that was perfect. When we were all seated at the big hibachi table, the show began. Our chef, Komassi, quietly and competently, put on a show while preparing a mouth-watering feast. He did knife tricks, and flipped food into our waiting mouths. It was so entertaining and fun, and I can't remember the last time I laughed that much. When he started filling our plates, we all went quiet, everything was so tasty, and perfectly cooked. The onion soup was amazing, the salad was so fresh, and the sesame dressing was wonderful. We ordered fried camamari - close to the best I've ever had. Then came shrimp fried rice, lobster tail, shrimp, more shrimp, giant sea scallops, and those delectable crisp tender mixed veggies with 2 very tasty sauces on the side. The meal, the experience, far exceeded my expectations, and because it was my birthday, I got it all for 1/2 price. From the host/greeter to the bar and waitstaff we got fantastic service, and Chef Komassi was the icing on the proverbial cake. Obviously, I highly recommend Genji.

The food was delicious! Our chef was amazing and fun. However, our waitress barely came to the table to check on us, and the hostess was absent minded. But this place deserves a 5 five star review.
